Parkinson’s Law Redux: December 2020 and COVID-19

Parkinson’s Law Redux

December 2020 and
COVID-19

Parkinson’s Law states “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.”

I discovered Parkinson’s Law in 2015, when I wrote an article “My Person Bane” where…

Covid-19 and Depression

Covid-19

Depression?

Kudos to Sarah Chrisp for her YouTube Video "My Struggle With Depression, Anxiety & Burnout

I enjoy her videos because she gives tips about developing an online business - and her own success gives credence to her advice. She has a YouTube channel. Her youthful enthusiasm is contagious, which is why I was so surprised at that one video.

She gave a few signs in her life that "something" wasn't right. She said she no longer enjoyed video games, TV, or more than a few pages of a book.

That sounded like something that is occurring in my life...

FYI: "Third Places" in 2020 Covid-19

Photo of Ray Oldenberg

 Ray Oldenburg

"Third Places"

Oldenberg proposed a model where

  1. "Home" is the first place; it's where you live
  2. "Workplace" is a second place
  3. Third Places - This is where people go to exchange ideas, form relationships, and create communities. One video elaborated on this last idea, suggesting that a "Third" place could be a park or a bar."
Dr. Peterson agreed. He wrote "[Oldenberg's] new term – third place – that made instant sense. Third places are where people congregate other than work or home. England has pubs, France has cafés, and Austria has coffee houses. Once upon a time in the United States, common third places included country stores, post offices, barber shops, hair salons, soda shops, and taverns."

What does this mean in 2020, with the Covid 19 world-wide shutdown?

Personal: Sleeping Together

Sleeping Together

It's Not About SEX

When I was 10 years old (or so) I fantasized about sleeping with someone. I would prop my arm in the air and pretend there was someone sleeping within an arm's reach.

This was before puberty, before hormones, and before I had any interest in sex.

Eastern Kentucky University

The Jaggers Room was originally dedicated in 1973 as a meeting room in the Student Union building.

In 2019 the Student Union was renovated, and in 2020 the Jaggers Room was repurposed as the EKU Veterans Center.

The dedication ceremony was held on August 25th, 2020. You can watch a 5-minute snippet on YouTube.

There are many positive points around this!

"Cutting the Cord" ~ 1-1/2 Years later

"Cutting the cord"

The bottom line, up front, is that I am still pleased with that choice!

YouTube Windows Tips & Tricks Videos

Windows 10 Tips ~ Windows 10 Tricks

I cut the cable cord in February, 2019, and am relying entirely on my Roku device for TV shows.

YouTube has a streaming app for Roku that will download a video then display it on my TV. The comments section is unavailable, but I can "like" a video, save it to a playlist and subscribe to a channel.

So, I watch a lot of YouTube videos on my TV. There is some unique and special to watch videos on the big screen from my couch!

I've been watching YouTube videos for a long time, and YouTube now suggests several genres from their video collection...

Senior Dating in 2020 - Covid19 in May

I became a Septuagenarian in 2019. I am unmarried, and live alone. I don't even share my living space with a pet!

Relationships for Seniors in 2020

I start dating in my teens, so I have over five decades of dating experience. I have been in exclusive and in committed relationships. (They're not the same, BTW.)

The March-April-May(?) Coronavirus quarantine put the kibosh on socializing in person. For the last year (or so) I've attended events put together by Meetup.com that are 10-15 miles from where I live. They are mostly public dinners at local restaurants, and most of the groups are mostly composed of "singles."
