I Got Married!

March 15, 2025 ~ Clearwater FL.

Richard Jaggers & Judy George (Cameron)

Judy & Rick Jaggers

__Anniversaries__

These are the significant dates that led up to that delightful occasion!

  • July 22, 2023 - "Meet Day"
Judy and I first met at Carabbas in Clearwater. This was a Meetup dinner. I was the host and organizer, and this was her first time attending a group function with the group.

  • August 25, 2023 - "Date Day"
We had our first date at Clear Sky restaurant, in Clearwater Beach. Later, we walked to the beach to watch our first sunset together.

  • May 11, 2024 - "Yes Day"
I proposed, and she said, "Yes!" (No, I did not romantically drop to a knee. It was more of an after-dinner discussion.)

  • June 28, 2024 - "Moving Day"
This was the day Judy's two cats (Sammy & Teddy) moved from her old townhouse. We also brought her clothes and furniture on that day.

  • March 15, 2025 - "Wedding Day"
This is the one anniversary I cannot forget. The other dates are only excuses to celebrate milestones in our relationship.

Personal: My Unfinished Posts

Unfinished Building

A New Beginning

For Rick Jaggers

I've been writing blog posts for the last three months.

Honest, I have!

I've started dozens of them. Unfortunately, most of them have been in my head.

However, I have actually started putting some of them on paper.

(Uhh... Figuratively on paper. I use a computer with a powerful spell checker and a voice that reads to me out load what I wrote.)

No more SPC for Me!

Registration Day

St Pete College

Today is the one day that seniors can register for free tuition for the upcoming semester. Classes start on Monday, December 12, and run through May 2023.

I'm not enrolling in anything for the spring 2023 semester. I've sent several hours looking through the available courses, and nothing really appeals to me.

"Isolation is your Dream-Killer"

Barbara Sher
TEDx 2015

Have I Isolated Myself?

I recently watched a YouTube video of Barbara Sher giving a TEDx talk several years ago.

I was intrigued by the title, "Isolation is the dream-killer, not your attitude." Her TEDx talk rambles about how people need to identify their dreams and the obstructions to those dreams.

Her talk is about how a master success group can help overcome those obstructions. She actually uses the title line about two-thirds of the way into her talk. She says, "Isolation is your dream-killer, not your rotten attitude."

Personal: Parkinson's Law Strikes Again

Parkinson's Law 2022!

I have been writing about Parkinson's law for several years. Most of the posts have been about how Parkinson's Law creeps up on me.

It's happened again, and I hadn't realized it.

(I dimly remember a story about a frog in a pot of cold water...)

My plate seems full - I have a really long to-do list. As I look over the list, I see lots and lots of things undone. I can keep busy for a month without adding anything to it.

Here are links to previous articles: Apparently, this particular topic is becoming an annual article. (The blogs each open in a window, so you can visit/read them and not lose your place here!)

Personal: Senior Dating in 2022

Senior Dating - 2022

This is an update from a short article I wrote over 2 years ago: Senior Dating in 2020 - Covid19 in May (This link will open in a new window, so you can read it and return here.)

I ended the blog with the lament "I miss people!"

Post-COVID

The COVID lock-down is over, but the world has changed. One analogy is people slowly coming outside after a once-in-a-century rain. The flooding has changed the landscape. Roads have been washed away, and new rivers exist where none had existed before.

The world is new and lush and green. Just different. Life is returning, but it's different as we try to understand "the new normal."

Personal: I Failed Freshman English Again!

FAILED

In 1967 I failed Freshman English in college. In 2022, I reprised a class from 50 years ago with the same results: I failed it a second time!

The 1967 "F" was because I went home for Christmas and did not return to college for final exams. I only remember discussions with the teacher about "Why?" I should be taking the course. I have no memories of the quality of the work I submitted during the semester. [ FWIW, I did not return from the Thanksgiving break the following fall, either.]

The 2022 repeat ended with the same grade,,,

Why go back to college?

I am doing this for several reasons!

Cheat Weight Watchers Weigh-Ins

 How to Cheat
Bathroom Scales

Your Daily Weight

Did you know that two cups of morning coffee immediately add one pound to your body? I finally connected the dots on how this affects my daily weight! (PS: It doesn't really matter. Read on...)

I joined Weight Watchers over 20 years ago. At that time, WeightWatchers had two forms of accountability.

  • Record everything you ate.
    • WeightWatchers assigned a point value to each food, and members were allowed a maximum number of points each day.
  • Stand on their scales once a week to measure your weight-loss progress.
I was astounded at how seriously...

Parkinson’s Law - Rick in 2021

Rick's Parkinson’s Law - Again

November 2021

I maintain a daily diary. I try to list my activities, focusing on my accomplishments. I close it out each weekend and take the time to reflect on what I actually did. Over time I grouped them into major categories.

I first wrote about Parkinson’s Law in 2015 with an article titled “My Person Bane.” In my article I shared…

Naval Maneuver - "Same old same old"

Contemplating My
Belly Button

It's been a while since I've written anything for this blog.

Busy...

I lead an active life, but it has become pretty routine from day-to-day. I do mostly the same thing!

The Cambridge Dictionary offers an interesting definition for Same Old Same Old: "(informal) it's used to say that a situation or someone's behavior remains the same, especially when it is boring or annoying."

Weight Loss: Rich in Calories

Fasting Weight Loss

Rich in Calories

The general consensus is that one pound of body fat = 3,500 calories.

A man who weighs 250 lbs is 75 lbs over the recommended weight for someone 6 feet tall.

He "owns" over a quarter million calories in his "fat account" (75 times 3,500 = 262,500).

He should be consuming 2,500 calories per day. Based on that, he should have 105 days of calories if he doesn't eat a bite of food during that time...

He's Rich!

Covid-19 and Depression

Covid-19

Depression?

Kudos to Sarah Chrisp for her YouTube Video "My Struggle With Depression, Anxiety & Burnout

I enjoy her videos because she gives tips about developing an online business - and her own success gives credence to her advice. She has a YouTube channel. Her youthful enthusiasm is contagious, which is why I was so surprised at that one video.

She gave a few signs in her life that "something" wasn't right. She said she no longer enjoyed video games, TV, or more than a few pages of a book.

That sounded like something that is occurring in my life...

Personal: Sleeping Together

Sleeping Together

It's Not About SEX

When I was 10 years old (or so) I fantasized about sleeping with someone. I would prop my arm in the air and pretend there was someone sleeping within an arm's reach.

This was before puberty, before hormones, and before I had any interest in sex.

Senior Dating in 2020 - Covid19 in May

I became a Septuagenarian in 2019. I am unmarried, and live alone. I don't even share my living space with a pet!

Relationships for Seniors in 2020

I start dating in my teens, so I have over five decades of dating experience. I have been in exclusive and in committed relationships. (They're not the same, BTW.)

The March-April-May(?) Coronavirus quarantine put the kibosh on socializing in person. For the last year (or so) I've attended events put together by Meetup.com that are 10-15 miles from where I live. They are mostly public dinners at local restaurants, and most of the groups are mostly composed of "singles."

Between 65 And Death

At my age 70, I definitely fall somewhere between the age of 65, and death.

I found this list of 21 life guidelines, and I wholly endorse all of them!

This resonates with me more than Desiderata.
(Many points are true for people of any age.)
